Maine Beer Company: Something Truly Special
Introducing one of absolute favorites, that will stay a staple in our Bottles by Sickles store for many years to come. Maine Beer Company (MBC) started with two brothers David and Daniel Kleban in 2009 with basically less than even with a nano of a typical brewery setup. David always wanted to be a brewer while Daniel was going to school to be a lawyer. While staying with David in Maine for an internship the brother started to brew on the weekends. Eventually Daniel decided he’d much rather be a brewer than a lawyer. They worked on a recipe for their now beloved beer “Peeper.” They started as a one barrel brew house, and now they have a full brewery with a warehouse and tasting room. The bottles are big meant to be shared, or sipped on by yourself for a long time (Or fast, we don’t judge!). There is no odd aftertaste or some palette block to hurdle over, these beers are for everyone and they’re delicious! Here are the three we currently have at our Red Bank location.
Peeper is a Pale Ale it’s a year round brew from MBC. This is the first recipe the two brothers worked on until they got it perfect. All starting with home brewing just in their garage. Its flavor has lemon, grapefruit and fresh cut grass.With notes of raspberry, strawberry, pine, floral and faint bread. Below each beer description you will find the hops and malt for the more involved beer nerds.
Hops: AMARILLO, CASCADE, CENTENNIAL
Malt: AMERICAN 2-ROW, CARAPILS, VIENNA, RED WHEAT
Lunch is an India Pale Ale from MBC, another year round beer. This beer actually isn’t named after the afternoon meal. It’s named after a WHALE! Lunch is a special whale that has been spotted off the Maine coast since 1982. It looks like a bite has been taken out of her fin, which only makes her more lovable. The beer is dedicated to her. Experience flavors of orange, grapefruit, and lemon, with pine and herbal undertones. Sense tropical notes of guava and papaya with subtle caramel and malt sweetness.
Hops: AMARILLO, CENTENNIAL, SIMCOE
Malt: AMERICAN 2-ROW, CARAPILS, CARAMEL 40L, MUNICH 10L, RED WHEAT
Fall, as you might get from the name, is a seasonal coffee stout from MBC. MBC celebrates the start of the season with this autumn offering. It is a stout made with cold brew coffee selected and brewed with their friends from Coffee By Design also located in Portland,Maine. The flavor is a dark chocolate, coffee, and molasses with hints of cedar and citrus
Hops: MAGNUM, LEMONDROP, HBC 472
Malt: 2 ROW, PILSEN, BLUE OX WHEAT, MUNICH, DARK CHOCOLATE, BLACKPRINZ, VALLEY MALT CHOCOLATE RYE.
