Cinco de Margo

The month of May kicks off with two of our favorite cocktails: the Mint Julep and Margarita. Margarita’s are especially fun because the classic trio base of Tequila – Orange Liquer – Lime juice leaves open plenty of room to be creative. Whether you take yours on the rocks, or blended, spiced and smokey with Mezcal, or el classico–everyone agrees the salty finish is a must. So we present three takes on the Margarita, each portioned for 1 drink.

El Classico

  • 2 oz Casamigos Blanco, or another white tequilla
  • 1 oz Cointreau
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice

Combine in a shaker with ice. Shake repeatedly for 10 seconds and strain into a salt rimmed glass. Serve with lime slice garnish.

El Classico, blended

  • 2 oz Casamigos Blanco, or another white tequilla
  • 1.5 oz Cointreau
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1 cup of ice

Combine in a blender and mix on high until smooth. Serve in a salt rimmed glass, with a fresh squeeze of lime juice on top as a floater. Note that we prefer our blended margarita with a sweeter finish, so you see an increase in the Cointreau. Some substitute a half ounce of agave syrup, or a pinch of sugar.

Mezacal Margarita

  • 2 oz Cruz de Fuego, or mezcal
  • 1 oz Cointreau
  • 0.5 oz Agave Syrup
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • fresh thyme, optional

Combine in a shaker, without ice to start. Pump the shaker a few times to incorporate ingredients, then add ice before shaking hard for 10 seconds. Pour into a salt rimmed glass. Mezcal pairs well with fresh herbs, like Thyme, so adding a sprig for garnish is perfect.
